'I started as a dentist assistant of Sally and Eddo in the previous practice and as I gained more interest in oral healthcare, I started my study of oral hygienist in 2009. My favorite activity is to treat patients with gum problems. It gives me a good job feeling to make a significant contribution to oral health, not only in collaboration with my colleagues but also in collaboration with patients. I also like to treat children and adolescents. I give them a brushless and oral health education on nutrition for oral health, thereby increasing the knowledge and skills of oral care in children and adolescents, which can prevent gaps and gums.'

What is a dental hygienist?

A dental hygienist is a paramedic, working within dental healthcare. Our task is mainly on the preventive level. The oral hygiene care is therefore aimed at preventing disorders of the teeth and the surrounding tissues.

Remove tartar

The care of mouth and teeth consists of the removal of dental plaque. This is a thin, often invisible sticky layer that stays attached to the teeth and teeth during the day. It mainly consists of food residues, mucus and bacteria.
Dental plaque has about the same color as the teeth and is therefore difficult to see. It is everywhere and therefore between teeth and molars.
If dental plaque is not removed for more than 24 hours, it can harden into tartar. Tartar can occur both above and below the gums. This is removed with the help of special instruments and can therefore only be done by a dental hygienist and dentist.

Polishing the teeth

This happens by default after a dental cleaning, so that all teeth and teeth are smooth again. This way the teeth stay clean longer.

Periodontal treatment

When oral hygiene is inadequate, the gums may be so inflamed that the supporting tissue located under the gum is also affected. Treatment then consists of cleaning the tooth surfaces under the gums combined with oral hygiene instruction by carrying out the patient himself. This requires several appointments.

Bad breath (halitosis)

Someone with halitosis always smells out of his mouth. Halitosis is quite common and is therefore not rare. Bad breath does not go by itself. However, in most cases it is easy to remedy.

The treatment of children

Children learn at the dental hygienist how they can maintain their teeth daily. By means of good information and explanation to parent and child with preventive measures such as fluoride applications and nutritional advice.

Your first appointment

During the first appointment we will ask you questions, have you fill out a health questionnaire and do a mouth test. On the basis of this research you will be informed as clearly as possible about the condition of your mouth. Depending on the condition of your teeth, we will start with the dental cleaning during your first appointment. This appointment will last about an hour.

Fees

It is important to know that different treatment codes are used for the treatment of a dental hygienist. These codes are invoiced depending on the diagnosis and follow-up treatment of your teeth. M-codes are used for normal dental cleaning with a small to moderate amount of tartar and for slightly inflamed gums. T-codes are used in treatments with moderate to large amounts of tartar and there the gums are inflamed into the jaw bone.

Your invoice

Sending and collecting the invoices is provided by Anders Medical Factoring for our practice. That has many advantages for you. Your accounts are processed smoothly and friendly, you keep a perfect overview through MijnAndersNota.nl (login) and you can pay with iDEAL. If you are additionally insured for dentistry, Anders Medical Factoring collects the part that is reimbursed directly from your health insurer, your eventual 'residual note' will be sent by e-mail.
Otherwise, Medical Factoring will send you the bills preferably by e-mail. This saves a lot of paper, time and unnecessary administration. You don't have to do anything, we use the e-mail address you have registered by us. Make sure that we always have the correct e-mail address from you!

A few tips

You will receive your invoice by e-mail. The sender of this e-mail is: service@mijnandersnota.nl. You can save these in your digital address book. For example, the e-mail will not accidentally end up in your 'junk mail box' and you will see in time that you have received an invoice.
There is a link in the e-mail. A link is a long line of text, usually blue, on which you can click through to a web page. Some information about you is requested on this page. These are for the approval and security of your personal information; they are meant to ensure that the right person can view and pay the correct bill.
What to do if the link does not open? Then copy the full link and paste it at the top of your browser (your internet window), where you normally type all kinds of www.addresses of websites.
Do you not succeed, or do you have other questions about this? Feel free to call the patient line.
